Leaving this veranda behind.
I’ve just moved homes.
From a colonial house with 4.5-meter ceilings, century-old tiles, and evenings lit by lanterns on this veranda…
to an apartment directly under my office.
The old house was beautiful, but also fragile.
Open shutters, no glass on most windows, exposed to the elements.
Living there was like being on a boat: charming, but never stable.
The new place is less romantic. No grand veranda.
But it removes the friction of distance.
It aligns my life more closely with my work.
What I’ve been reminded of is this:
Strength doesn’t always come from beauty.
And comfort doesn’t always come from luxury.
Sometimes it comes from reducing exposure and aligning your foundations with your commitments.
Have you ever had to choose alignment over beauty?
